Although I read (ok skimmed) the book in English, I might have connected w/ it more viscerally if I’d read it as *Crève, mon amour* (FR) … oh-la-la …

Alrighty back to my own language !! I found this utterly fabulous, mind-blowing SumReads write-up and decided that it would do just fine as a bookend to this post. It’s dense and contains one rogue mention of 核心 (héxīn), which somehow makes me wonder if it was AI-generated by a Chinese tool w/ a sense of humor ?! ;-D

The novel opens with the protagonist already entrenched in a life that feels suffocating and alien to her. She lives in a remote farmhouse in the French countryside with her husband—a Frenchman who represents stability, tradition, and the conventional life she both sought and now desperately wishes to escape.

The SumReads review reminds me of CliffNotes from back in the day !! ;-D It’s structured, making it easier to read than Ariana’s book. And it trips me out b/c it feels like a pedantic, high-brow, eerily accurate write-up about my life in rural VD … yikes !! :-0
