First off, <em>August<\/em> is a wedding anniversary month for me.  I kicked off my <em>awfully wedded<\/em> life in <em>1998<\/em>, making <em>2023<\/em> my <em>25th <\/em>year as an awfully wedded <em>wife<\/em> !!  A quick <em>Google<\/em> search reveals that some cultures consider a <em>25th<\/em> anni to be be a <em>Silver Anni<\/em> &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What number is supposed to be engraved into silver jewelry ?!  Oh yes &#8230; &#8220;925&#8221; !!  A brief check of w\/ my <em>1980s silver bracelets <\/em>from <em>Mexico<\/em> confirms this &#8230; <em>Yabba Dabba Doooooo  !! <\/em> My <em>Mexican bangles<\/em> are now <em>chiming<\/em> on my wrist as I type &#8230; if you <em>listen carefully<\/em> while you visit this post, perhaps you&#8217;ll hear them &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Lua de Mel <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>I learned the term &#8220;lua de mel&#8221; in <em>Brasil<\/em> while travelling w\/ a lovely <em>Brasileira<\/em> who  was crashing at the same semi-skanky youth hostel as I.  We shared  a bunk bed in the whimsically  gorgeous<em> Pelourinho<\/em> district of <em>Salvador \/ Bahia<\/em>, where the street kids <em>swerve &amp; pop <\/em>to the non-stop live music <em>w\/ the effortless panache<\/em> of the aquatic creatures that <em>gliiiide<\/em> thru the nearby waters.  <em>Michael Jackson<\/em> would film this video in <em>Pelourinho<\/em> a wee bit later &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Michael Jackson - They Don\u2019t Care About Us (Brazil Version) (Official Video)\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/QNJL6nfu__Q?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em> Alors <\/em>&#8230; at the time, I was planning a big wedding bash, to be held in <em>SuiciLande<\/em>, where I was to marry my <em>Swiss<\/em> fianc\u00e9.  We&#8217;d bought a wedding dress, booked  a charming venue that &#8212; <em>malgr\u00e9 tout<\/em> ;-D &#8212; I still love, and sent our snailmail invites out from Brasil.  My lovely little bunk-buddy <em>Brasilera<\/em> was asking me if we were planning a &#8220;lua de mel&#8221; and I was wracking my brain to figure out what she was on about &#8230;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My Portuguese was and will always be <em>imperfeito<\/em>.  Nonetheless, I was able to <em>falar com flu\u00eancia<\/em> for a short time in the 1990s.  And this little term had me  all tripped out, sending my neurons to a <em>word-for-word <\/em>translation which yielded:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>moon<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>of<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>honey<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Was there a moon-shaped &amp; honey-based <em>sobremesa<\/em> that Brasilians serve up at <em>casamentos<\/em> &#8230; ?!  I hadn&#8217;t heard of that.  And then I got it !!  She was speaking of a <em>honeymoon<\/em> !!  When I&#8217;d finally deciphered it, I grabbed her hands and laughingly replied that <em>sim<\/em> &#8230; we were thinking of going to <em>Lisboa<\/em> for our honeymoon &#8230; we hadn&#8217;t bought our <em>bilhetes<\/em> just yet  but were thinking that it would be fun to<em> falar portugu\u00eas<\/em> during our <em>moon of honey<\/em>. ;-D<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Subsequent Moons<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Fast-FWDing to <em>3 kids<\/em> (18+ ;-D) and <em>several decades<\/em> later in <em>Calvinist-Lutherin-Protestant-SuiciLande<\/em> &#8230; I have spent many moons pondering over how <em>getting <\/em>married is easy-peasy, but <em>staying <\/em>married is an endurance game that is <em>not <\/em>for the faint at heart !!  Many marriages <em>terminate<\/em> for the right reasons (thank gawd) !! But for those that are potentially worth <em>sustaining<\/em> \u2026 I truly believe that a <em>Wicked Sense of Humour<\/em> (= <em>WiSH<\/em>)  is essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Wicked Sense of Humour<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A <em>WiSH<\/em> is of course not the <em>only<\/em> ingredient to <em>sustainable marriage<\/em>, but w\/out it, the marriage is  <em>truly fucked<\/em> (all puns &amp; imagery <em>poignantly intended<\/em> ;-D).  I hold that staying married w\/out a <em>WiSH<\/em> is like <em>Writing<\/em> (in English) w\/out <em>Vowels<\/em>, <em>Swimming<\/em> w\/out <em>Water<\/em>, <em>Sushi-ing<\/em> w\/out <em>\u7b77\u5b50<\/em> \u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>OK I&#8217;ve nothing against eating sushi w\/out chopsticks but I hope y&#8217;all get my point.  And I trust that anyone who&#8217;s <em>too incensed<\/em> to stick w\/ me has by now left this page. I&#8217;d concluded my 5th or 6th reading of said book prior to our trip, and <em>voraciously<\/em> re-read (for perhaps the 4th time?) <em>City of Girls<\/em> in Italy &#8230; enjoying my time w\/ <em>Vivie<\/em> as much as ever !!  Needless to say, we were feeling belly <em>Lizzy<\/em> during our time in Italy, and the whole fam embraced the <em>Eat<\/em> part of <em>EPL<\/em> !!  I brazenly stated one evening at dinner:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;No kCalorie left behind !!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2026 to which my daughter corrected me:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>&#8220;No (k)Carb left behind, Mommy !!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Oh yes, of course !!  I proudly stand corrected.  I believe my Mommy work is done !! As a prelude to our trip, we&#8217;d re-watched <em>Cinema Paradiso<\/em> in its full glory, during which we&#8217;d laughed and cried.  My <em>Mister<\/em> was looking specifically for the scene in which <em>Toto<\/em> gesticulates lewdly towards his hero <em>Alfredo<\/em> !! ;-D  We found that scene, which I converted into the wee <em>animated GIF<\/em> above. I believe I was the one to have mentioned it &#8230; thanx to my <em>WiSH<\/em> !! ;-D  To this, <em>Coach Gauthier<\/em> advised us (ie. hubby &amp; me) to watch it together.  So I ordered a DVD copy of it for our next anni &#8230; whichever one that was &#8230; maybe <em>15th<\/em> &#8230; ?! But it doesn&#8217;t necessarily transform someone into a <em>predator<\/em> &#8230; at least not in my case.  I can&#8217;t carry on writing about this b\/c it&#8217;s terrible for my blood pressure.  (In case it&#8217;s unclear, I identify as <em>prey<\/em>.)
